South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council have clear ambitions for the future, with the Communications and Design team being critical to delivering strategic communications that enable our communities to understand our overall direction.

We’re currently recruiting a Communications Officer to join a small team of communications and design professionals. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that South Hams District and West Devon Borough communications and consultations are engaging, effective and have maximum reach.

You will collaborate daily with colleagues from across the Councils to deliver a high-quality communications and design service which communicates the aspirations of the Councils.  Through your work, the team will demonstrate how local democracy operates and ensures the business of the Councils is transparent, with opportunities for local people to get involved.

You will be expected to deliver a full range of communication support including, public relations, marketing, video production, social media management, consultation, engagement, media monitoring, campaign management and media relations.

You will build effective working relationships with services and external partner organisations and provide expert advice on all communications matters.  This would include campaign and communications planning, digital reach, behaviour change and best practice from across the profession.

The IMPACT Behavioural Framework has been developed to support the ambitions for our workforce. The framework aims to enhance both individual and organisational performance and will be applied in recruitment, performance management and career progression. It defines the behaviours that all colleagues across both councils are expected to consistently demonstrate at work. The framework can be found on the right hand side of this page under ‘Related Information’.
